Discover the power of celebration with life coach Terry Yoffe's hands-on guide.

What would it be like to celebrate your life on a daily basis?

While the word “celebration” may conjure up images of parties, fireworks and crowds, it also means “praise,” “rejoice,” and “enjoy.” By simply “celebrating” what you have at any given moment, you create opportunities to live a wonderfully fulfilling life. Take small, simple steps to celebrate your life each day and accumulate a wealth of good feelings, secret joys and a powerful sense of gratefulness.

Start by simply looking around: think about the people you are grateful to have in your life and the experiences you are happy to have had. Go for a walk, appreciate nature, window shop. Indulge your soul by connecting mind, body, and spirit with a hot bath, a deep massage, or a good book and a hot cup of coffee. Spend some time by yourself and rejuvenate. Try yoga, buy a new lipstick, treat yourself to an ice cream cone. Even when life is in chaos, take the time to celebrate. Find a way to detach and decompress—take deep breaths, sit somewhere beautiful, go to a movie. As busy as you are, scheduling in time for yourself will help you discover more ways and reasons to celebrate.

Imagine if you could wake up every morning and say, “I’m so lucky that it’s me I get to be each day.” It all comes down to your perspective and the choice you make about living life in celebration. Oprah Winfrey’s simple one liner aptly sums up celebrating life:

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.”

A client of mine had left her job and was in transition. She began exploring new avenues for her next career. During our coaching, I asked her to keep a journal and to write down one thing she could celebrate about herself each day. This kept her focused and confident about her skills and talent and enabled her to continue her search with a positive attitude.

By celebrating something about herself each day, my client was reminded that being in transition didn’t take away from who she was and what she had to offer, either personally or professionally. And when she did find that new career opportunity she was able to step into her role with confidence and assuredness about herself and her talents.

I invite you to try this exercise. I have also designed some questions to help you think about celebration in your own life and find new ways to incorporate more of it.

  • How can you praise and celebrate your life on a daily basis and what would that truly look and feel like?
  • How would it change your perspective of yourself, your situations, and how you show up in the world?
  • Think about the choices you make. At any given moment you can choose to step into a life of celebration by choosing to praise and celebrate your life. Then, opening the lens wider, you are able to include everyone else, thereby having more in life to celebrate! What choices are you going to make today?

I wish you the Power of Celebration—of your life, who you are, and what you have to offer—and the ability to honor that each day.
