Perfect Timing
How many times have you asked yourself (or anyone around you who might know) when the holidays start this year? And whether when they say “the twelfth,” do they mean the twelfth at night or that the twelfth is the first day of Rosh Hashanah, but really the holiday begins the night before? Well, have we got a solution for you.
We stumbled upon the website when-is.com, and it is the answer to our scheduling prayers...
They have an entire section dedicated to Jewish holidays (in addition to listing Muslim, Christian, Hindu and American holidays), and their information is both clear and thorough. What a pleasure to be able to ask, “When is Shmini Atzeret?” and to told not only that Shmini Atzeret in 2007 is on Thursday, the 4th of October, but that “in the Jewish calendar, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Jews will celebrate Shmini Atzeret on the sunset of Wednesday, the 3rd of October.”
Think about bookmarking this site for easy reference. Plus, if you get bored someday, you can look up the dates for all your favorite holidays from now until 2017!
